wordpress update

May 5th, 2008

I’ve just updated my wordpress install to the latest version. Please drop me a line if you notice any weird issues with the site. That is, of course, assuming anyone at all reads this anymore, which seems unlikely. I’ve found it difficult in the past to have anything to say when blogging, not sure why. Anyone have any input on that? Perhaps I’m not that interesting or I’m not social enough. No idea. Anyway, I hope to come back to posting something somewhat regularly here.

On a side note, what’s the deal with all the blogging software being mysql-specific? I realize there’s some difficulty involved in making a system like this truly dbms-independent. Perhaps it’s not fully possible to do so and retain all the features we know and love from each. With that said, perhaps a few more software authors could arrive at a happy compromise such as ruby on rails uses, or another similar system? *grumble*

updated crux 2.3 iso with usb cdrom support

September 12th, 2007

i finally had time (and the hardware, thanks to this) to sort out why the updated iso was not able to use an external usb cdrom as its install source - the script was running through the cdrom check too fast for usb devices to settle and missing the cdrom as the device and sysfs nodes weren’t created in time. links are on the right, as usual.

gnome-release replaced with gnome-current

September 12th, 2007

following a good suggestion from a fellow cruxer, i’ve added a ‘current’ tag to the gnome svn and it mirrors the current available ports, so if you’d like to get the latest without continually updating the rsync ports driver, grab the ‘gnome-current’ driver and replace your gnome-release.rsync in /etc/ports.
